What is your biggest problem?

Even the best managers sometimes need help with a difficult issue.  In fact, the very best managers always look for help, and make sure they get it.  What do you see as your biggest problem at work?  What issue is the one that would make a really big impact if you could solve it?  Here is my simple Two Step programme for you to try out!

1  Ask for help – here are some ideas about how:

2  “Don’t just sit there – DO SOMETHING!”

Ask yourself, what is the first, easiest, simplest, step I could take, right now?   AND TAKE IT.  You’ll find that just getting into action mode by taking a ‘Micro Action’ will change your perspective.  You may also be surprised at how much further than that first step you actually get!

I have been enjoying playing with what I call ‘Micro Actions’ for a while now.  I’ve been getting a lot more done.  Those who have seen the paper pile up on my desk in the past know that I have a problem with paper!  The Micro Action was making labels for my boxes and files – I also made this fun by putting cute clip art pictures on them.  Since then, putting the papers into the boxes and files has been really easy and at last I can find the important papers I need.  If you can make the Micro Action something that is fun for you, it will work even better.

You may also like to try Micro Actions out as daily actions too.   For example, for many years I’ve wanted to play the Japanese flute.  I bought a beautiful flute in Japan last autumn and could not even make a sound on it at first.  I knew I didn’t have time or patience to go to classes and practice for hours.   So a couple of months ago, I began each day, to spend one minute on experimenting and trying to understand the diagrams in my instruction book.  And guess what, I’m making progress.  Yes, slowly, but I am making progress that I would not have made without that Micro Action – one minute a day.
